Particulars

Yvonne Cruz Aguiar was born on 6 February 1932 in Ribeira do Pombal, Bahia, to a São Paulo family of German origin. She spent her childhood and adolescence in São Paulo, married at sixteen and had a son, José. Travelling to Rio de Janeiro to seek treatment for her son's polio, she boarded the wrong train and ended up settling in Sorocaba, a city she embraced as her own. There she began working in sewing and built a decades-long career designing and making personalized garments, especially wedding and debutante dresses. In the 1990s her creations dressed brides, debutantes and candidates in beauty pageants, and she became a prominent figure in the city's social columns and an icon of wedding-dress fashion in Sorocaba. She died on 30 September 2026 in Sorocaba at the age of 94.
