Particulars
In 1907 William Sealy Gosset published “On the Error of Counting with a Hæmocytometer,” and, unbeknownst to him, he rediscovered the Poisson distribution.
After a Guinness researcher’s paper raised management concerns, Guinness required future researcher publications to omit beer, Guinness, and the author’s true name; Gosset may have taken the pen name “Student” from his 1906‑1907 notebook “The Student's Science Notebook,” and his t‑distribution is now called Student’s t‑distribution.
