William Dean Christensen
1945–1990William Dean Christensen abducted and raped a woman in Washington, D.C., then, as Richard Owen, kidnapped and raped a woman in Montreal.
Particulars
In July 1980 William Dean Christensen abducted a young woman at a bus stop in Washington, D.C., drove her to a family member’s house, raped her, and let her go. He was soon connected to the crime and arrest warrants were issued.
In January 1981 Christensen was arrested in Toronto for falsifying passport information and spent 21 days in jail; after his release he created the alias Richard Owen. On April 16, 1981 Owen kidnapped and raped a woman in Montreal, pleaded guilty in July and was sentenced to one year and six months. When authorities discovered Owen was Christensen and that he was wanted for rape in Washington, D.C., U.S. officials asked Canadian officials to transfer him to a Maryland jail, but a clerical error resulted in his release.
