Particulars
In the 1920s Walter Hinton explored the Arctic by balloon and was carried by Navy balloon A‑5598 from Rockaway Naval Air Station to Moose Factory, Ontario, where he spent a month hiking to civilization. Hinton and Kloor wrote letters home that their families sold to newspapers, prompting the Navy to enforce rarely used censorship rules.
Walter Hinton made the first flight from North America to South America on his second attempt, after his first try left him floating on a wing in shark‑infested waters off Cuba, and he later explored the Amazon rainforest by hydroplane.
