Particulars

Vitaliano Borromeo Arese was an Italian prince and businessman who served as president of Kaleon, the holding company that managed and promoted the Borromeo family's historic estates around Lake Maggiore. Born in Milan on 22 June 1960, he graduated in business economics from Bocconi University and began his career in the United States in the steel sector before returning to Italy as chief executive of the So.Ge.Par group, a producer of stainless steel, and later as president of Flos, a leading lighting and design company. He also carried out real estate projects focused on restoring historic buildings in Milan.

From 2011 he devoted himself to the diversification and relaunch of the family heritage, developing the "Terre Borromeo" project, a managerial and cultural venture that transformed the historical, artistic and natural heritage of Lake Maggiore into a tourist destination attracting close to a million visitors a year. Under his guidance, Kaleon managed and enhanced sites including Isola Bella and Isola Madre, Parco Pallavicino, the Mottarone park and cableway at Stresa, the Castelli di Cannero, the Rocca di Angera and the Castello di Vogogna. The company was listed on the Milan and Paris stock exchanges on 1 December 2025.

Alongside his business activity, Borromeo Arese maintained a strong philanthropic and educational commitment, serving for eleven years as patron of the Collegio Borromeo in Pavia, Italy's oldest merit-based university college, and of the San Carlo Borromeo infant school in Lacchiarella. From 2021 he sat on the boards of the Amici del Museo Poldi Pezzoli and of Airc, the Italian cancer research association. He died at the age of 66, survived by his mother Bona, his wife Marina and his sons Giberto and Lodovico.
