Vincent Pastore was born on July 14, 1946, in the Bronx, New York, to an Italian‑American family. After serving as a sailor in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, he earned a drama degree from Pace University and worked various jobs before breaking into acting in the late 1980s.

He became a familiar face in crime‑drama productions, appearing in films such as Goodfellas and Carlito’s Way. Pastore’s breakout role came in 1999 when he was cast as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero, a key member of the New Jersey mafia, on the critically acclaimed HBO series The Sopranos. The role cemented his reputation as a reliable character actor for mobster parts.

Beyond The Sopranos, Pastore continued to work in film and television, featuring in titles like Gotti, The Jerky Boys: The Movie, and the animated feature Shark Tale. He also made guest appearances on numerous TV shows, often portraying tough‑guy or law‑enforcement characters, and remained active in the industry into his later years.

Pastore was found dead at his Bronx residence on August 1, 2026, at the age of 80, prompting tributes from fellow actors and fans who remembered his memorable contributions to American television and cinema.
