Victor Brooke Miller was an American writer for film and television, best known for writing the screenplay of the original 1980 horror film "Friday the 13th." The low-budget film became a seminal installment in the horror canon, popularizing the summer camp setting and spawning a long-running franchise that grew into one of the highest-grossing horror series in the United States. Miller created the characters of Jason Voorhees, his mother Pamela Voorhees, and the heroine Alice Hardy, though he was not involved in the sequels.

Beyond his film work, Miller had a distinguished career in daytime television, writing for series including "Guiding Light," "One Life to Live," "Another World," and "All My Children," for which he won three Daytime Emmy Awards. He was born in New Orleans, attended Milton Academy and Yale, and worked in advertising before co-founding the American Shakespeare Theatre's Center for Theatre Techniques in Education.

In his later years, Miller was involved in a protracted legal dispute over the rights to the first "Friday the 13th" film, which was resolved in 2021 when a federal appeals court ruled his work was not "work for hire," granting him the right to terminate rights to his work.
