Tom Chadbon was a prolific English character actor whose career spanned more than six decades. He first gained attention with guest appearances on classic British series such as Sherlock Holmes, The Bill and Midsomer Murders, and became a familiar face in the UK television landscape. Chadbon is perhaps best remembered for his recurring roles in the long‑running science‑fiction series Doctor Who, where he portrayed the fan‑favourite Duggan and later returned as Merdeen, as well as for his cameo as a stockbroker in the James Bond film Casino Royale (2006).

In addition to his work on Doctor Who, Chadbon appeared in a variety of high‑profile productions, including the fantasy epic Game of Thrones, where he played High Septon Maynard, and popular comedies such as Peep Show. His film credits also include appearances in The Beast Must Die (1974), Tess (1979) and Shooting Fish (1997). Over his career he amassed more than 120 screen appearances, earning a reputation as a reliable and versatile supporting actor.

Chadbon's contributions to British television and film were celebrated by colleagues and fans alike after his death at the age of 80 in July 2026. Tributes highlighted his warm personality, professionalism, and the lasting impression he left on multiple generations of viewers.
