Particulars
Theo Burrell was a prominent British antiques specialist, auctioneer, and television personality. She was widely recognized for her expertise in ceramics and decorative arts, particularly from the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Burrell worked as a specialist and auctioneer at the esteemed auction house Lyon & Turnbull in Scotland. Her professional journey began during her teenage years when she worked at viewing events for Lyon & Turnbull, and she later returned as an intern while completing her postgraduate studies. She held a Master of Arts in History and a Master of Letters in Decorative Arts from the University of Glasgow.
Burrell joined Lyon & Turnbull in 2011, where she developed seasonal auctions and contributed to innovative sale formats. By 2012, she had qualified as an auctioneer and conducted sales across various categories. Her deep knowledge and engaging presentation style led to her appointment as a regular expert on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow in 2018, where she evaluated and appraised valuable and historically significant items brought in by the public.
In June 2022, Burrell was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a severe form of brain tumor, after experiencing persistent migraines and neurological symptoms. She underwent surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, and became an advocate for brain tumor research. In November 2023, she was named a patron of the charity Brain Tumour Research, using her platform to raise awareness and campaign for increased funding. Burrell passed away on July 8, 2026, at the age of 38, after a courageous battle with her illness. She was survived by her partner, Alex, and their son.
