Tedde Moore was born on April 11, 1947, into a prominent Canadian artistic family; she was the daughter of actor and cultural figure Mavor Moore and the granddaughter of theatre pioneer Dora Mavor Moore. She trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, graduating in 1967, and began a career that spanned stage, film, and television. Moore appeared in a variety of Canadian productions, earning awards for her supporting roles in films such as Second Wind and receiving a Dora Mavor Moore Award for her stage work.

Moore's most widely recognized performance came in 1983 when she portrayed Miss Shields, the elementary school teacher of the young Ralphie Parker, in the holiday classic A Christmas Story. She reprised the role in the 1994 sequel My Summer Story, becoming the only actor to appear in both films. Her role as Miss Shields cemented her place in popular culture, as the film has become a perennial favorite during the Christmas season.

Beyond her acting career, Moore was a mother and mentor, raising her children—including music producer Noah "40" Shebib—and supporting the next generation of Canadian artists. She remained active in the arts community until her death on August 5, 2026, at the age of 79.
