Steve Gollschewski was a career Queensland police officer who rose to become the state's 21st Police Commissioner, serving nearly five decades on the frontline. He joined the Queensland Police Force in 1980 and worked across organised crime, intelligence, anti-corruption and counterterrorism before becoming a long-serving deputy commissioner.

As state disaster coordinator, he steered the policing response to the 2011 Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley floods and other cyclones, floods and bushfires. He became a well-known public figure during the COVID-19 pandemic, overseeing border closures, airport security and hotel quarantine operations.

Gollschewski was formally appointed Queensland's top cop in April 2024. Months into his term he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, took leave, and made a remarkable recovery before returning to duty. He retired in early 2026 due to health reasons and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to law enforcement, counter-terrorism and the community.
