Sō Kuramoto was a Japanese screenwriter, playwright, and director, born in Tokyo. After graduating from the University of Tokyo, he worked at Nippon Broadcasting System while secretly writing scripts under his pen name, becoming a freelance writer in 1963. He wrote numerous acclaimed television dramas, including Zenryaku Ofukurosama and the NHK taiga drama Katsu Kaishū, and was regarded alongside Kuniko Mukōda and Taichi Yamada as one of the leading scriptwriters of his generation.
