Particulars
Sass Jordan was a Canadian rock singer from Montreal whose debut single "Tell Somebody" won the Juno Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist in 1989, and she earned three further Juno nominations over her career. Her 1992 album Racine, her best-selling release, produced the hit "Make You a Believer" and "I Want to Believe," both of which charted on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart, and Billboard named her Top Female Rock Artist of the Year in 1992. She also recorded the duet "Trust in Me" with Joe Cocker for the soundtrack of The Bodyguard.
Jordan released a string of albums over three decades, including Rats, Get What You Give, and the acclaimed blues records Rebel Moon Blues and Bitches Blues, the former reaching number five on the Billboard Blues chart. She served as a judge on all six seasons of Canadian Idol from 2003 to 2008, and performed the lead role of Janis Joplin in the off-Broadway production Love, Janis. In her early career she gave Taylor Hawkins his first rock-and-roll touring job before he joined the Foo Fighters.
Jordan died on 2 October 2026 at the age of 63, surrounded by her family, after stepping away from professional commitments in September 2026 due to an undisclosed medical condition.
