Particulars
Sámuel Literáti Nemes (1796–1842) was a Transylvanian-Hungarian antiquarian. He became infamous for his many forgeries, which were so skillful that they deceived even some of the most renowned Hungarian scholars of his time.
His activities as a forger were later scrutinized by historians. In 1866, Hungarian historian Károly Szabó suggested that Literáti Nemes may have been involved in the creation of the Codex Rohonczi, a manuscript of uncertain origin and content. This suspicion has persisted in scholarly discussions since then.
Literáti Nemes's legacy is primarily defined by his deceptive practices, which have complicated the study of Hungarian historical artifacts. His alleged connection to the Codex Rohonczi remains a topic of historical inquiry.
