Rollie Free
1900–1984Rollie Free set a speed record on a motorcycle at Bonneville wearing only a bathing suit, shower cap and sneakers.
Particulars
Rollie Free discarded his protective leathers after they tore during earlier runs and attempted a final run on the Bonneville Salt Flats without a jacket, pants, gloves, boots, or helmet, wearing only a bathing suit, a shower cap and borrowed sneakers, inspired by his friend Ed Kretz.
During that run he achieved the record speed and was photographed from a car traveling parallel to him, creating the famous “bathing suit bike” image.
