Rod Liddle was a prominent British journalist, broadcaster and author with a career spanning over four decades. He began in journalism at the South Wales Echo before working as a speechwriter for the Labour Party and later joining the BBC. In 1998, he was appointed editor of BBC Radio 4's Today programme, a position he held until 2002 when he resigned following a controversy over a column he wrote for The Guardian.

After leaving the BBC, Liddle became a regular columnist for The Sunday Times, The Spectator and The Sun, among other publications. He was known for his provocative and often controversial opinions on politics, culture and social issues. He also authored several books including novels and non-fiction works, and presented television documentaries on topics ranging from religion to immigration.

Liddle remained an active public figure throughout his career, standing as a candidate for the Social Democratic Party in the 2024 general election. He continued writing and broadcasting until his death at age 66 following a short illness.
