Rob Reiner was born on March 6, 1947, in New York City to actors Estelle and Carl Reiner. He began his career as a child actor, appearing in television series like "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "Batman" before attending UCLA Film School.

He rose to national prominence playing Michael "Meathead" Stivic on the 1970s sitcom "All in the Family," a performance that earned him two Primetime Emmy Awards. Transitioning to directing, Reiner helmed a string of acclaimed films, including "This Is Spinal Tap," "Stand by Me," "The Princess Bride," "When Harry Met Sally...," "A Few Good Men," and "The American President," and co‑founded Castle Rock Entertainment.

Beyond his work in entertainment, Reiner was an outspoken liberal activist, championing LGBTQ rights, early childhood education, and environmental causes. He and his wife Michele co‑founded the American Foundation for Equal Rights, which challenged California's same‑sex marriage ban.

On December 14, 2025, Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home. Their son Nick Reiner was later charged with their murders, ending the life of a prolific filmmaker and public figure whose contributions to film and activism left a lasting impact.
