Robert Ginyard, born May 18, 1967, grew up in the Bronx before moving to Harlem, where he developed an early passion for hip‑hop and began performing at local talent shows. In the mid‑1980s he teamed up with DJ E‑Z Rock to form the duo Rob Base & DJ E‑Z Rock; their 1988 single “It Takes Two” became a crossover hit, reaching the top 40, earning platinum certification, and helping bring rap into the mainstream.
