Richard O'Sullivan was an English comedy actor who became one of the most recognisable faces of British television in the 1970s and 1980s. He began acting as a child, appearing in films such as The Yellow Balloon, The Stranger's Hand, It's Great to Be Young, and Cleopatra, in which he played Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII. He also appeared in Carry On Teacher and two Cliff Richard musicals before establishing himself as a television regular.

O'Sullivan found his greatest fame as Robin Tripp, a trainee chef sharing a London flat with two young women, in the ITV sitcom Man About the House (1973-1976). The show was considered daring for its time and spawned the spin-off Robin's Nest (1977-1981), in which he reprised the role. He also starred as the title character in the period adventure series Dick Turpin (1979-1982) and in the sitcoms Doctor at Large, Doctor in Charge, and Me and My Girl.

After suffering a stroke in 2003, O'Sullivan lived at Brinsworth House, the Royal Variety Charity's care home for entertainers, where he died aged 82 surrounded by his family.
