Particulars

Princess Astrid of Norway was a senior member of the Norwegian royal family, the sister of King Harald V and daughter of King Olav V and Crown Princess Märtha. Born in 1932, she was the second child of the royal couple and grew up during the Second World War, spending part of her childhood in exile in the United States with her mother and siblings.

Throughout her life, Astrid carried out numerous official duties on behalf of the Norwegian monarchy, representing the royal house at state functions, cultural events, and charitable causes. She was particularly associated with organizations supporting people with disabilities and with cultural and social welfare initiatives, and she was widely respected for her quiet dedication to public service.

She remained an active and beloved figure within the royal family into her later years, attending major state ceremonies. She died in September 2026 at the age of 94, just two days after attending the funeral of her brother, King Harald V, who had died the previous month.
