Peter John Helm Jr. was born on December 22, 1941, in Toronto, Ontario, and began his acting career as a teenager, appearing in the 1959 television sitcom Too Young to Go Steady. He quickly moved to the stage, performing on Broadway alongside Jane Fonda and Joey Heatherton in the early 1960s.

During the 1960s Helm became a familiar face on American television, guest‑starring in popular series such as Wagon Train, The Donna Reed Show, The Fugitive, Bonanza, and The Farmer's Daughter. His versatility allowed him to appear in a wide range of genres, from westerns to dramas, establishing him as a reliable character actor.

Helm also made notable film appearances, most prominently in the cult classics Inside Daisy Clover and The Andromeda Strain, as well as a role in the epic war film The Longest Day. These performances cemented his reputation in both cinema and television.

Peter Helm passed away at the age of 84 on May 23, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of diverse roles that spanned more than five decades of entertainment.
