Particulars

Paulo Jeronimo de Sousa was a Brazilian journalist whose career spanned more than six decades across newsrooms, press offices and public institutions. Arriving in Rio de Janeiro from his birthplace of Mococa in the 1960s, he published one of his first front-page reports for Correio da Manhã in November 1964, a story whose coverage contributed to the dismissal of the Air Force minister. Over the years he worked at O Globo, O Jornal, Boletim Cambial, TVE, TV Tupi and Jornal do Dia, building a reputation for reporting and editing.

Sousa also spent decades in institutional communications, advising ministries, the Banerj bank, the National Housing Bank (BNH), the Rio city government and the state government. At BNDES he worked for 27 years and took part in the communications for the National Privatization Program in the early 1990s. Earlier, in the 1970s, he led the advertising agency Sistema in São Paulo.

He became closely associated with the Associação Brasileira de Imprensa (ABI), where he served as counselor, social assistance director and vice-president before leading the institution as president from 2019 to 2022ahan. He also chaired its Press Freedom and Human Rights Commission and was a strong defender of freedom of the press and expression. In recent years he published memoirs and humor books, including "Memórias Quase Tardias" and "Napoleão Nu no Playground".
