Nivaldo Magagnin, popularly known as "Nivaldo da Batata," was a Brazilian politician who served as vereador (city councilor) for the municipality of Treze de Maio in the south of Santa Catarina. He was affiliated with the MDB party and was an active sitting member of the local legislature at the time of his death. He had a long-standing presence in the community, where he was recognized by his nickname. He died on September 9, 2026, one day after turning 63, when a steel cable supporting a 'big bag' containing roughly a ton of potatoes snapped and fell on him while he was working. The municipality declared three days of official mourning in recognition of his public service.
