Neil Reading built a respected reputation in the UK entertainment industry as a leading publicist. He founded his own agency, Neil Reading PR, in 1992, representing a roster of high‑profile comedians and television personalities such as Dawn French, John Cleese, Victoria Wood, John Bishop, Lenny Henry, Paul McKenna and Jason Manford. His work extended beyond publicity, as his agency also helped launch West End productions including High Society, Only Fools and Horses, and a stage version of Fawlty Towers.

Colleagues and clients praised Reading for his loyalty, professionalism, and personal kindness, describing him as a "quietly magnificent" and "one‑off" figure who cared deeply for those he represented. His influence was felt across television and theatre, where his strategic promotion contributed to the success of numerous shows and performers.

Reading died after a short illness at the age of 56, leaving behind his wife Claire and daughter Rosa. His death prompted tributes from many of the comedians and broadcasters he had supported throughout his career, underscoring the lasting impact he had on the British entertainment community.
