Particulars

Michiel Vandeweert was a Belgian content creator and influencer who documented his life living with progeria, a rare progressive genetic disorder that causes rapid aging. He amassed more than 90,000 followers across his social media accounts, where he shared his experiences and inspired many with his positivity and courage.

At age 15, Vandeweert published the memoir 'Ik Ben Michiel' ('I Am Michiel'), detailing how he navigated life with the disorder. He and his sister Amber, who also has progeria, were featured in the documentary series 'How to Be Alive,' which followed their lives over several months and was released earlier this year.

Vandeweert was a devoted fan of the Belgian soccer club KRC Genk, which honored him after his death and planned to hold his funeral on the field of its stadium. He was also remembered by the mayor of Diepenbeek, where he lived, for his admirable approach to life.
