Michele Ann Marie "Shelley" Fabares was an American actress and singer who became a baby-boomer icon. She was born in Santa Monica, California, and began acting as a child, appearing in films such as The Bad Seed and Marjorie Morningstar before landing her breakout role as Mary Stone on the long-running family sitcom The Donna Reed Show (1958-1963). Her national popularity led to a recording contract, and in 1962 her single "Johnny Angel" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over a million copies, followed by other hits including "Johnny Loves Me."

Fabares co-starred as the leading lady opposite Elvis Presley in three films: Girl Happy (1965), Spinout (1966), and Clambake (1967). She continued a busy television career with regular roles on The Brian Keith Show, The Practice, and One Day at a Time, and earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in the television film Brian's Song (1971).

From 1989 to 1997 she starred as Christine Armstrong Fox on the hit ABC sitcom Coach, a role that earned her two Primetime Emmy Award nominations. She later voiced Martha Kent on Superman: The Animated Series and produced the Screen Actors Guild Awards from 2004 to 2011. Fabares was married to producer Lou Adler and later to M*A*S*H actor Mike Farrell.
