Michel T. Halbouty, a wellsite geologist for Yount-Lee Oil Co., drove from a wellsite in 1931 and interrupted a formal dinner at the owner's home to persuade the owner not to abandon an apparent dry hole and to drill deeper.
He staked his job on the result, and the deeper drilling produced the prolific High Island Field in Texas.
