Particulars

Marlon B. James was a German singer and musician of Jamaican roots who became known in the Frankfurt hip-hop and soul scene. Already active musically in Frankfurt in the early 1990s, he released his single 'Da La De La (Africa Center of the World)' in 1991 and later appeared on tracks from the Frankfurt hip-hop label Ruff-N-Raw before coming into contact with the scene around Moses Pelham's 3P label. His voice can be heard on the successful album 'Aus der Sicht und mit den Worten von' by Sabrina Setlur, and he was close to Xavier Naidoo.

In 1999 James joined Söhne Mannheims, the band co-founded by Naidoo, and helped shape their debut album 'Zion' released in 2000. He remained a member for many years and was also involved as a songwriter on the popular song 'Das hat die Welt noch nicht gesehen'. In 2017 he gradually ended his membership and moved his home to Jamaica.

James died at the age of 60, reportedly when armed attackers opened fire in a bar in Robin's Bay in northern Jamaica; he and two other men succumbed to their injuries. His death was confirmed by his family and announced by the band's spokesperson.
