Marcos Rodríguez Pantoja was born in Añora, Córdoba, Spain. After his mother died and his father remarried, he was sold at age seven to a goatherd in the Sierra Morena mountains. When the goatherd died, Marcos survived alone in the wild for more than a decade, living among wolves and other animals and developing communication through sounds and howls. He was found by the Civil Guard in 1965 and underwent a difficult reintegration into society, later working as a shepherd and in hospitality while enduring exploitation and abuse from those who took advantage of his limited understanding of the social world.

His extraordinary case became the subject of a doctoral thesis by anthropologist Gabriel Janer Manila, who interviewed him between 1975 and 1976 and later published the book 'He jugado con lobos' (I Have Played with Wolves). His life story was adapted into the 2010 film 'Entrelobos' (Among Wolves), directed by Gerardo Olivares, in which Marcos himself appeared and helped guide the portrayal of his own experience.

In his later years, Marcos settled in the village of Rante in Ourense, where he was welcomed by a retired police officer he considered family. He gave talks at schools and camps about his extraordinary life and was interviewed on numerous television programs, becoming one of the few documented feral children in Spain. He died in Ourense at the age of 80.
