Marcos Penido, known as "Penidão", was a Brazilian sports journalist who spent 32 years at the newspaper O Globo and also had a professional stint at Jornal do Brasil. A devoted Botafogo supporter, he was a two-time winner of the Prêmio Esso de Jornalismo, in 1983 and 1994, one of Brazil's most prestigious journalism honors.

Over the course of his career he covered nine consecutive FIFA World Cups, from 1982 to 2014, establishing himself as a respected figure in Brazilian sports journalism. The Federação de Futebol do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (FERJ) mourned his death, praising his kindness and dedication to the profession.

Penido died in Rio de Janeiro in August 2026 at the age of 74, leaving his wife Rita and two stepchildren.
