Particulars
Marcio Chaer was a Brazilian journalist and media entrepreneur best known as the founder and director of Consultor Jurídico (ConJur), an independent electronic magazine specializing in coverage of the judiciary, public prosecutors, the legal profession and the law. Founded in 1997, ConJur grew under his leadership into one of Brazil's most influential legal news outlets, becoming the most-cited vehicle in the jurisprudence of the Supreme Federal Court and reaching millions of monthly readers. The site also published the Anuário da Justiça collection profiling the country's judges and courts, and its reporting on major operations such as Lava Jato and Mensalão made it a prominent, often contrarian, voice in Brazilian legal journalism. Chaer died on 3 October 2026 in São Paulo after collapsing while chasing a robber who had taken a phone from someone in his car.
