Ludwig Greiner
1796–1882Ludwig Greiner claimed he measured Gerlachovský Peak as higher than Lomnický Peak in 1837‑1838.
Particulars
Ludwig Greiner said he climbed Lomnický Peak on 10 August 1837, measured its elevation with an altimeter and used a quadrant to determine that Gerlachovský Peak was higher, contradicting the 1813 measurement by Göran Wahlenberg.
Greiner said he later triangulated several Tatra peaks from near Poprad in the fall of 1838 with a precise theodolite, and his 1839 paper reported Gerlachovský Peak as the highest point in the Tatras and the Carpathians, with an elevation only 13 m off from the modern value.
