Particulars

Luděk Mikloško was a Czech professional footballer who spent the heart of his career as a goalkeeper with West Ham United. Born in Ostrava on 9 December 1961, he began his playing career at Baník Ostrava before joining West Ham in February 1990 for a fee around £300,000, quickly establishing himself as first-choice goalkeeper.

At West Ham he made 373 appearances, was named the club's player of the year during the promotion season of 1991, and helped the side reach the semi-finals of both the FA Cup and the League Cup. His man-of-the-match display against Manchester United on the final day of the 1994/95 season famously helped Blackburn Rovers secure the Premier League title. He later played for Queens Park Rangers, signing permanently in 1998 after a loan spell and making 57 appearances.

Mikloško won two caps for the Czech Republic and was called into the national squad for the 1990 World Cup. After retiring from playing he worked as West Ham's goalkeeping coach until 2010. He died in September 2026 at the age of 64 after a long battle with cancer.
