Departures of note

In 1963 Lucianne Goldberg opened a one-person public relations firm, Lucianne Cummings & Associates. She had come into possession of a handwritten note from Jackie Kennedy while acting as a messenger for Kennedy in 1960.

In 1965 she attempted to sell the note to Lady Bird Johnson through an auction house for $1,000; the First Lady demanded its return, and Goldberg apologized and returned the note, after which she learned her income tax returns would be audited by the IRS.
