LeRoy Irvin Jr. was an American professional football player who primarily played cornerback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Los Angeles Rams from 1980 to 1989. Selected in the third round of the 1980 NFL Draft from the University of Kansas, Irvin quickly established himself as a standout defensive back. In 1981, he earned First Team All-Pro honors after recording three interceptions, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. His ability to create big plays was evident throughout his career, including a standout 1984 season where he led the league with two interception returns for touchdowns. Irvin was named to the Pro Bowl in 1985 and 1986, and was twice selected as First Team All-Pro. Over his Rams career, he accumulated 34 interceptions, five of which he returned for touchdowns, along with nine forced fumbles and 13 fumble recoveries. After his playing career, Irvin remained involved in football and business, working with former teammates in ventures including a licensed NFL merchandise company. He passed away in July 2026 at the age of 68 after a battle with throat cancer.
