Particulars

Klaus Rader was a German restaurateur and entrepreneur who, together with Friedemann Findeis, opened the first L'Osteria restaurant in Nuremberg in 1999, turning a small Italian eatery into a Europe-wide chain known for its oversized pizzas. The pair also co-founded the Vapiano chain in 2002. Under Rader's leadership, L'Osteria expanded across Germany and into Austria, Switzerland, the UK, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, France, Luxembourg, Poland and Spain, growing to more than 160 restaurants. In 2023 the investment firm McWin acquired around two-thirds of the company, valuing it at roughly 400 million euros. Rader died in a rally accident in 2026.
