Particulars
Kenny MacPherson was a veteran music publishing executive and artist manager who co-founded Big Deal Music Group in 2012 with former Chrysalis Music colleagues Jamie Cerreta and Dave Ayers. The Los Angeles-based publisher built a celebrated roster that included My Morning Jacket, Ray LaMontagne, St. Vincent, Sleater-Kinney, The Afghan Whigs and Sharon Van Etten, and its catalogue earned multiple Grammy, NMPA, BMI and ASCAP awards before its sale.
In September 2020, Big Deal was acquired by Hipgnosis Songs Fund and renamed Hipgnosis Songs Group, with MacPherson named its chief executive. Over a long career in publishing and artist management he also worked with acts such as Radiohead, Supertramp and the Blue Nile. In October 2023 he was placed on leave from Hipgnosis Songs amid a lawsuit filed by a former colleague stemming from his time at Chrysalis Music.
MacPherson died on Friday in Los Angeles at the age of 71.
