Born in Los Angeles on June 15, 1942, Judy Lenteen Pace grew up as the daughter of an airplane mechanic and a dressmaker and attended Dorsey High School before studying sociology at Los Angeles City College. She made her film debut in 1963's 13 Frightened Girls and broke ground in 1968 as the first Black villainess on television with her role as Vickie Fletcher on Peyton Place. Throughout the 1970s she became a familiar face in both blaxploitation cinema and popular TV series, appearing in titles such as Three in the Attic, The Young Lawyers, Brian's Song, and guest‑starring on shows like Batman, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, and Good Times. Her performance on The Young Lawyers earned her a 1970 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series. Pace married actor Don Mitchell in 1972, with whom she had two daughters, including actress Julia Pace Mitchell, before divorcing in 1984. She later married former baseball player Curt Flood in 1986, remaining with him until his death in 1997. Judy Pace died peacefully in her sleep on March 11, 2026, while visiting family in Marina del Rey, at the age of 83.
