Joshua Steven Grisetti was an American actor, director, educator, and author, prominent in musical theater, television, and film. Born in Washington, D.C., on December 1, 1981, he grew up in Virginia and pursued drama at the North Carolina School of the Arts before earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from The Boston Conservatory. Grisetti began his career in regional theater, gaining early recognition for his performance in Enter Laughing: The Musical, which earned him a Theatre World Award and multiple award nominations. He made his Broadway debut in It Shoulda Been You in 2015, receiving Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations. His portrayal of Nigel Bottom in Something Rotten! further solidified his presence on Broadway and during its first national tour. On television, he was known for his role as Ralph Emerson in the final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and appearances in The Knights of Prosperity, The Immigrant, and The Namesake. Grisetti also taught musical theater at California State University, Fullerton, and was recognized for his critical commentary on theater education through his TikTok presence. In 2016, he published a memoir titled God in my Head: the true story of an ex-Christian who accidentally met God. Grisetti died by suicide on July 10, 2026, at the age of 44.
