Josep Grau i Seris was born in Mollerussa on 8 November 1945 and died in the same city on 8 September 2026 at the age of 80. He was a prominent Catalan politician affiliated with Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya (CDC) and Convergència i Unió (CiU), serving for over two decades in regional and local government.

Grau began his municipal career in 1983 as a councillor in Mollerussa and became mayor in 1987, an office he held for three consecutive terms until 1999. His tenure coincided with the official creation of the comarca of Pla d'Urgell in 1988 and a period of notable urban, economic, and demographic growth for the city, including new residential and industrial sectors and the consolidation of the Fira de Mollerussa and Fira de Sant Josep.

He served as councillor (conseller) of Agriculture for the Generalitat de Catalunya between 1999 and 2003, as president of the Diputació de Lleida from 1990 to 1999, and as president of the Associació Catalana de Municipis. He was also a deputy in the Spanish Congress between 1993 and 1994.
