Joaquim Augusto Carvalho de Paula, widely known as Guga de Paula, was a Brazilian politician who served as mayor of Cantagalo, a municipality in the Serrana region of Rio de Janeiro state. His public career in local government made him a well-known figure in the region. He died on 10 October 2026 when the car he was driving left the road, overturned and struck a tree in Euclidelândia, a district of Cantagalo; he was alone in the vehicle and died at the scene. His wife had reported him missing to the local police shortly before authorities learned of the accident.
