Departures of note

John James Rimmer was an English professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper for more than two decades, most notably for Manchester United, Arsenal and Aston Villa. He came through the youth system at Manchester United, where he spent eleven years chiefly as understudy to Alex Stepney and was on the bench for the club's 1968 European Cup final triumph over Benfica.

After a loan spell at Swansea City, Rimmer joined Arsenal in 1974, becoming their first-choice goalkeeper for three seasons and winning the club's Player of the Year award in 1975. He earned his only England cap during his time at Arsenal, playing in a friendly against Italy.

Rimmer moved to Aston Villa in 1977, where he enjoyed the most successful period of his career, making 229 league appearances and winning a First Division title in 1981. He played in every match of Villa's European Cup-winning campaign in 1982, though he was forced off with injury nine minutes into the final against Bayern Munich. He later rejoined Swansea City and had brief spells with Hamrun Spartans and Luton Town before retiring and becoming a goalkeeping coach, including two spells as Swansea's caretaker manager.
