Particulars
In 1697 Jean Mery invited the itinerant lithotomist Frere Jacques to demonstrate his methods under Mery's supervision. Jacques first demonstrated the technique on a cadaver and then performed lithotomies on 71 patients, of whom 53% died from complications; Mery conducted autopsies to determine the causes.
Following Mery's examinations, Frere Jacques was debarred from conducting surgeries in Paris.
