James Trubshaw
1777–1853James Trubshaw bored water‑filled auger holes under a building’s foundations, causing it to sink and a central fracture to close.
Particulars
James Trubshaw dug a row of auger‑holes through the foundations on the high side of a building, placed water in the holes and sealed them with marl, then left them overnight.
In the morning the water softened the marl, the building began to sink, a second row of holes was bored and filled with water, and the high side continued sinking while the central fracture gradually closed.
