Homero Fonseca was a Brazilian journalist and writer from Pernambuco, born in Bezerros in the state's Agreste region. He built a long career in the written press, serving as editor-in-chief of Diario de Pernambuco and working at Folha de Pernambuco and Revista Continente, becoming a respected figure in Pernambuco journalism.

As an author, Fonseca wrote extensively about the history and culture of his state. His works included "Viagem ao planeta dos boatos" (1995), about the famous 1975 rumor that the Tapacurá Dam had burst, and the 2007 novel "Roliúde: um romance pitoresco, aventuroso e cinematográfico," which was adapted for the theatre. He also wrote "Pernambucania: o que há nos nomes das nossas cidades" (2006), exploring the origins of the names of all 185 municipalities in the state, and a biography of the bookseller Tarcísio Pereira.

Fonseca won the Prêmio Off Flip de Literatura 2024, held in Paraty, in the short-story category. His final book, published in July 2026, dealt with the Confederação do Equador. He died on 22 August 2026 in Recife at age 77 after treatment for pancreatic cancer.
