Glen James Hansard (21 April 1970 – 29 July 2026) was an Irish singer‑songwriter, guitarist and actor. He founded the rock band the Frames in 1990, releasing several acclaimed albums and becoming a staple of the Irish music scene. Hansard also performed as part of the folk‑rock duo the Swell Season with Czech musician Markéta Irglová.

Hansard achieved worldwide recognition when he co‑wrote and performed the song "Falling Slowly" for the 2007 film Once, in which he also starred. The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, making him an Oscar winner. He continued a solo career, releasing albums such as Rhythm and Repose and collaborating with artists like Eddie Vedder and Bruce Springsteen.

In addition to his music, Hansard appeared in several films and television shows, including The Commitments and an episode of The Simpsons. He remained an active performer and activist until his death in a motorcycle crash in Dublin on 29 July 2026 at the age of 56.
