Particulars
Gisela Marx built an unusual career across German media, working from the mid-1960s as a journalist for WDR and presenting radio and television magazines. At Sender Freies Berlin she made the talk show Leute with Wolfgang Menge and appeared as a reporter in his legendary film Das Millionenspiel. As a journalist she was known for holding her own in the male-dominated editorial circles of public broadcasting, positioning herself on the left and close to the SPD. In 1974 she founded the production company Filmpool, initially focusing on documentary formats. She became a pioneer of the infotainment genre that the private broadcasters discovered, and her court show Richterin Barbara Salesch proved style-defining for an entire genre. She sold Filmpool to MME Moviement AG in 2004. She died at the age of 84.
