Particulars
In 1859 George Pullman and his Albion-based business partner Charles Moore moved to Chicago and raised the Matteson House, a large brick hotel.
Pullman and Moore subsequently raised several more Chicago buildings, joined a consortium that raised a ninety‑eight‑metre block of four‑ and five‑storey structures on Lake Street, and in 1861 Pullman contracted with the Ely and Smith partnership to raise the six‑storey Tremont House; their firm lifted buildings an average of six feet without damage, often while the buildings remained fully operational.
