Garrett Joseph Anderson was born on June 30, 1972, in Granada Hills, California. He excelled in baseball, football and basketball at Kennedy High School and earned a scholarship to Fresno State before signing with the California Angels after being drafted in 1990.
Anderson made his major‑league debut in 1994 and became a fixture in the Angels lineup, playing 17 seasons primarily as a left fielder. He was a three‑time All‑Star, won the 2003 All‑Star Game MVP, and was the Home Run Derby champion that year. He helped the Angels capture their first World Series title in 2002, delivering the series‑winning hit in Game 7, and he set numerous franchise records for hits, RBIs, games played and home runs by a left‑handed hitter.
After leaving the Angels in 2009, Anderson spent a season with the Atlanta Braves and a brief stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers before retiring. He was later inducted into the Angels Hall of Fame. Anderson died on April 16, 2026, at the age of 53.
