Particulars

Gaël Da Silva (30 December 1984 – 26 May 2026) was born in France and emerged as a leading figure in men’s artistic gymnastics. He overcame early setbacks, including a severe knee injury that forced him to miss the 2004 Athens Olympics and a motorcycle accident that required multiple surgeries.

Da Silva achieved his greatest successes in the early 2010s, becoming a three‑time French floor champion (2008, 2011, 2012) and earning a bronze medal on floor at the 2012 European Championships. He represented France at the 2012 London Olympics, helping the team finish eighth and placing tenth in the qualification round for floor exercise.

Off the mat, Da Silva married former Olympic gymnast Camille Schmutz, and the couple had three children: Hugo, Jules, and Lou. He remained involved in French gymnastics as a mentor and respected figure until his untimely death in a car accident on 26 May 2026, at the age of 41.
